4. The course based on the following topics:

The main topics are given by the current courses of the departments. They mirroring the specific competence, knowledge and motivation on language skills and professional research of the department staff.

5. Assumed Background:

Minimum of 4 semesters architectural and engineering studies, specified background during the registration. The participation on the course is allowed for the exchange students of the Faculty of Architecture.

6. The main aim of the Course:

Similarly to the international practice the course aims primarily research activity in architecture and its documentation. The possible horizon of the research topics is determined by the course lists of the departments and the personal interest of the students. Beside the architectural topics the course will give an appreciation of interdisciplinary and special fields in international environment too. The project work will demonstrate generic and specific skills and understanding of the open and synthetic character of the research.

The objective of this course is to hone the skills of analysis and abstraction in order to develop a framework for research. The student should be able to draw from precedent in the art, architecture and engineering in the development of this framework, which will act as scaffolding for the theoretical, experimental and creative decisions. This course will consist of a series of consultations to the teachers, but the essay should write by the student. The available topics are given by the Departments of the Faculty. The student can propose also a special topic for research during the course, but the teacher has to be agreeing with the proposal.

7. Method:

Compile an essay under guidance of the Topic Leaders.

Through the semester an essay need to be successfully completed by all students. The core of the research can be studied by a team (max. 6 participants), but every student has to research a subtopic. The final essay should be edited for the conference at the end of the semester. All essays should consist an abstract in English (max. 1500 characters). The best, selected essays will be published presumably yearly.

The course will open every year on the last week of November and May. The schedule and the main topics are given by the departments and published in NEPTUN and on the Faculty and Department websites.

9. Workload:

a.) 28.10.2019 (Monday) until 12:00 AM: first control submission

extended abstract of the research idea based on bibliography, case studie(s) and/or site analysis

b.) 09.12.2019 (Monday) until 12:00 AM: final submission

final essay, including 10-15 A4 pages text (cca 20.000-30.000 characters + attachments, plates, photos, drawings etc. max 10 pages), format: .word/.rtf and .pdf)

c.) 19.12.2019 (Thursday): presentation

– presentation of the results on the Faculty Conference, 10 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion in English (format: .ppt/.pptx)

10. Repetition:

a.) 04.11.2019 (Monday) until 12:00 AM: first control submission

b.) 16.12.2019 (Monday) until 12:00 AM: last final submission (with late homework fee)

c.) 19.12.2019 (Thursday): presentation (repetition not available!)

11. Contact Hours:

60 Minutes per Week

12. Bibliography:

The student has to compile a list with the relevant monographs, periodicals, web based sources etc. The course leaders will give a basic bibliography.
